NSW authorities are taking no chances when it comes to student safety. With schools in New South Wales preparing for the new term, drivers are being urged to exercise caution and adhere to the reduced speed limits in school zones.
From January 27th, a week before the official start of term one on February 2nd, the 40km/h speed restrictions will be in full effect. This is to accommodate the early return of some students after the Christmas and New Year holidays. But here's where it gets tricky: while staff typically have the first few days of term to themselves, this year's schedule is different.
Motorists, take note! The school zones will be active during the usual hours of 8-9:30am and 2:30-4pm on weekdays. However, some schools operate outside these standard times, so staying informed is crucial. The consequences of speeding in these areas are severe, with fines reaching $3242 and seven demerit points.
NSW Transport executive director Chadi Chalhou emphasized the importance of vigilance, stating, "Children can be unpredictable, so we're asking motorists to be extra careful." He encouraged drivers to prioritize student safety, keep their licenses penalty-free, and avoid unnecessary expenses.
